JANET CLEGHORN

Janet's background in textiles is evident in her quirky, contemporary paintings. She obtained a BA in Industrial Design from the Scottish College of Textiles (now part of Herriot Watt University), graduating in 1995 before spending the next fifteen years working in the textile industry as a designer.

Her mixed media still lifes feature treasured items she has collected over the years; textile samples, china, old bottles. She adds fruit and flowers to give freshness to the groupings and the aerial perspective allows the shapes to be flattened and refined, providing a traditional subject with a modern twist. The importance of fabrics and their construction within the painting is clear to see and her passion for the subject shines through.

Janet's highly collectable paintings have recently been exhibited at The Fotheringham Gallery, The Coldstream Gallery, Moy Mackay Gallery, The Whitehouse Gallery, Kirkudbright and The Thistle Gallery, Glasgow.
